At a press conference, Bilawal said, “I do not believe that Muhammad bin Salman’s visit has been postponed because of Imran Khan’s long march.”
The foreign minister accused PTI leader Imran Khan and said the party’s long march in Islamabad was aimed at making the appointment of the next army chief controversial.
“Imran Khan’s long march has no democratic purpose,” he said, adding that the former prime minister had offered the deputy military commander a life extension to avoid a no-confidence motion.
“Army Chief of Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa declined the offer on behalf of Pakistan,” he added.
The foreign minister claimed that Imran Khan wanted the constitution to be controversial.
He blamed the former prime minister for Pakistan’s economic crisis and said Khan wanted to block deals between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The PPP leader said his party had opposed the sit-in from the beginning, adding that it had chosen the democratic path to overthrow the government of Imran Khan.
Responding to questions, Bilawal said the appointment of an army chief is the prime minister’s prerogative. He advised his PTI chairman to finalize the appointment process for a new army chief of staff and delay his long march by a few days.
He suggested to Imran Khan that the appointment of the Chief of War should not be controversial.
It was the last chance for Imran Khan to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities or the president would face the consequences, he warned.
